"Come daylight, we’ll go to Port City."
Silence met her announcement.
"I have not been there since the war. We’ll consider it an unknown area." She handed Edward a carefully covered paper. "We’re going to the city center. You draw up the plan this time."
The honor lit up his eyes. “Now?”
He waited a brief second to verify her answer, then moved off to a secluded corner of the small camp.
Alexa wave Jacob to cover the man and then she joined Daniel and Billy in the rotating watch. “Soon, it won’t be just us anymore.”
Things were moving faster now. Tomorrow, they would play a card, take a chance, and then it would be fate’s turn to flip. Will there be a ship? Can we get through Nature’s line? Did I risk their lives for nothing?
“When?”
She swept the eerie, dead forest. "The others are close. Tonight."
Men turned to scan the landscape.
"Good or bad?"
Alexa shrugged. "There is space for both in all of us. It's mankind's fatal flaw."
